Something of Value is a 1957 American drama film directed by Richard Brooks and starring Rock Hudson, Dana Wynter, and Sidney Poitier. The film was reissued under the title Africa Ablaze . The film, based on the book of the same name by Robert Ruark, portrays the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya.
Something of Value examines the guerilla war fought between the British settlers and the Kikuyu natives in Kenya after WWII during what became known as the Mau Mau Rebellion. With each rereading, the book changed. It was not only a safari adventure story, but it was also a snapshot of history.
