Drowned Out is a 2002 documentary by Franny Armstrong about the Sardar Sarovar Project. Shot over three years, Drowned Out follows one family's stand against a government dam project which is set to destroy their home and their village.

Drowned Out focuses on people living in Jalsindhi (a village along the riverbank) who are facing the threat of disappearing under water as the dam rises. The seasonal monsoon rain on which they relied on for cultivation is fast becoming an additional threat.
Will the water go to poor farmers or to rich industrialists? What happened to the 16 million people displaced by fifty years of dam building? Why should we care? Drowned Out follows the Jalsindhi villagers through hunger strikes, rallies, police brutality and a six year Supreme Court case.
