- 1:19FBI identifies 'subject involved' in Trump rally shootingReuters VideosSTORY: Donald Trump was shot in the ear during a Saturday campaign rally in what the FBI are now investigating as an assassination attempt. The FBI has identified a 20-year-old man named Thomas Matthew Crooks as a 'subject involved' in the shooting. State voter records show that he was a registered Republican. Earlier, the Secret Service had said the shooter was dead, and that at least one spectator was killed at the event in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump said on his Truth Social platform that he was "shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear." As of early Sunday morning, authorities had not given a motive for the attack. Leading Republicans and Democrats quickly condemned the violence. President Joe Biden spoke to reporters within hours of the incident: "It's sick. It's sick. It is one of the reasons why we have to unite this country. We can not allow for this to be happening. We cannot be like this. We cannot condone this." Saturday was the first shooting of a U.S. president or major party candidate since the 1981 attempted assassination of Republican President Ronald Reagan. It happened less than four months before the November 5 election, when Trump faces Biden in the polls.1 day ago

- 2:36Biden mangles names as calls to withdraw growReuters VideosSTORY: U.S. President Joe Biden mixed up names and verbally stumbled at a press conference Thursday– one where he doubled down on staying in the race for the presidency, and repeatedly emphasized that he was most qualified to beat his Republican rival Donald Trump. "I'm in this to complete the job I started." Calls have tallied up by the day from 81-year-old’s Democratic colleagues to end his re-election bid over concerns about his age and mental acuity. His case may not have been helped early on in the hour-long Q&A when he mixed up the name of his vice president, Kamala Harris, with Trump. "I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president if she was not qualified to be president. So start there." That came a few hours after Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as "President Putin," at the NATO summit in Washington. "Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin. President Putin? You're going to beat President Putin. President Zelenskiy." Later, at the press conference, his first responses were garbled but grew steadier as he fielded questions from reporters. He said he had undergone a neurological exam as recently as February, but would take another if recommended to him by his doctors. "They think I should have a neurological exam again, I'll do it. No one’s suggesting that to me now." Biden has faced growing doubts from donors, supporters and fellow Democrats since his poor debate performance against former President Trump two weeks ago. They fear he no longer has the ability to beat Trump in the November election, or to lead the country for another four-year term. So far, 16 Democrats in the House and one in the Senate have appealed publicly to the president to withdraw from the race. :: File Officials from the United Auto Workers union, which endorsed Biden in January, met on Thursday to discuss their concerns with his candidacy, according to three sources familiar with the matter. The union has a big presence in industrial states like Michigan that Biden will need to carry to win re-election. Biden has vowed to continue on, and his campaign argued that the debate has not dramatically shifted the race, even as it laid out a narrow path to re-election. The campaign argued it could win by focusing on battleground states Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. If Biden took those states, along with others considered to be reliably Democratic, he would win 270 electoral votes, the bare minimum needed to secure the presidency. The campaign characterized other battleground states he won in 2020 as "not out of reach."3 days ago
- 0:38Biden says he's the most qualified for US presidentReuters VideosSTORY: :: Biden says he's 'in this to complete the job I started' :: July 11, 2024 :: Washington, D.C. "I’m not in this for my legacy. I'm in this to complete the job I started. As you recall, understandably, many of you and many economists thought my initial initiatives that I put forward can’t do that, it’s going to cause inflation, things are going to skyrocket, the debt is going to go up. What are you hearing now from mainstream economists? Sixteen economic Nobel laureates said I've done a hell of a job, and under my plans so far, and what's going to happen in the future if I'm reelected, that things are going to get much better.” When asked if Vice President Kamala Harris would be fit to succeed him in the upcoming elections, Biden assured that he would not have chosen her as his vice president if she were not qualified to be president. Biden highlighted Harris's career as a senator and prosecutor before becoming vice president and praised her advocacy for women's reproductive freedoms over the past four years. The President added that it’s still too early to worry about polling, as the campaigns have yet to begin.3 days ago
- 0:48'I'm in good shape': Biden defends his healthReuters VideosSTORY: ::July 11, 2024 ::Biden defends his health, says he is 'in good shape' ::Washington, D.C. “I've taken three significant intense neurological exams by a neurologist. In each case as recent as February, and they say I'm in good shape. Okay. Although I do have a little problem with my left foot because it's not as sensitive because I broke my foot, didn't wear the boot. But I'm good, I'm tested every single day by my neurological capacity, the decisions I make every day.” “Every single day I'm surrounded by good docs. If they think there's a problem, I promise you, we don’t think it's a problem. If they think I should have a neurological exam again. I'll do it. No one’s suggesting that to me now." At a news conference, Biden said he had taken three significant and intense neurological exams, most recently in February, and that the doctors tell him that "I am in good shape." He said no one was suggesting he take another such exam at this time. Biden faces growing doubts from donors, supporters and fellow Democrats, who fear he no longer has the ability to beat former President Trump in the Nov. 5 election, or to lead the country for another four-year term.3 days ago
