Without was the “Red Death.” It was towards the close of the fifth or sixth month of his seclusion, and while the pestilence raged most furiously abroad, that the Prince Prospero entertained his thousand friends at a masked ball of the most unusual magnificence.
The Red Death captures each dancer, one by one, the clock stops and the lights go out, and the Red Death finally rules over the whole realm. The masked figure is blood-stained and, after stalking ominously, kills the Prince in seconds – the figure is the personification of the plague.
