Larry and his friends hang around the village, occupy a corner of a coffee shop, live in each other's apartments, share each other's problems and answer the regular false alarms of the girl who keeps saying she's going to kill herself.
The next day, Larry auditions for casting director Sid Weinberg, who wants to screen test him for a movie shooting in Hollywood, California. When Sid finds out Larry is Jewish, he regales him with stories about his own overbearing and obnoxious Jewish mother.
Set in the 1950, a young man moves to Greenwich Village in New York City in order to escape his domineering mother.
