This is a city park, but is really a small hiking mountain. It's in town, so conveniently accessed. Great exercise, but not overly strenuous. My dogs love it, and it's a great way for a short outing and exercise without a long drive. On top is a cross that is lit at night (hence the name Cross Mountain).

Quite a few Texas hills have crosses on top, but few of those places can match the history and the legend of Cross Mountain just north of Fredericksburg. Cross Mountain was a landmark for travelers long before the first German settlers came into the Pedernales River Valley.
Feb 4, 2017 · Cross Mountain, located just outside the city limits, bears it’s own mystery. In 1847, during the founding of the city, a cross was found on the top of a neaby hill, although no one knew who put it there or why. It was given the name, “Kreuzberg” or Cross Mountain.
