Opening ten years after an irreparable economic collapse, a trio of fleeing raiders led by Henry (Scoot McNairy) steal a Rover belonging to a man called Eric (Pearce). Pursuing the men, Eric soon crosses paths with Henry's dying younger brother, Rey (Pattinson), who was left for dead by the raiders.
It’s the images of "The Rover" that linger—a truck flipping by a window, a man collapsing under the interrogation of another, a gun sale that ends in violence, the climax.
A decade after the collapse of the western world, Australia has become a lawless wasteland. As desperate outsiders pillage the country's precious mineral resources, taciturn Eric (Pearce) travels from town to town searching for signs of life.
Hardened loner Eric (Guy Pearce) travels the desolate towns and roads of the Australian outback. When a brutal gang of thieves steals his car and only remaining possession, they leave behind the wounded Rey (Robert Pattinson) in their wake. Forcing Rey to help track the gang, Eric gives chase.
