The Swabian children (German: Schwabenkinder) were peasant children from poor families in the Alps of Austria and Switzerland who went to find work on farms in Upper Swabia and the Swabian Jura.

Schwabenkinder is an incredibly strong and convincing movie about the lives and times of those wretched children of poor mountain peasants from the Austrian state of Tyrol who were sent to Swabia as child laborers in the second half of the 19th century.

Schwabenkinder plot. Tyrol, late nineteenth century. Poverty forces many mountain farmers to sell their children as cheap labor to farmers in Swabia.
