U.S. soldier Frank Dux has come to Hong Kong to be accepted into the Kumite, a highly secret and extremely violent martial arts competition. While trying to gain access into the underground world of clandestine fighters, he also has to avoid military officers who consider him to be AWOL.
Bloodsport is a super-villain named Robert DuBois, who uses high-tech guns and weaponry with Kryptonite bullets that are teleported into his hands. He is mentally ill and obsessed with the Vietnam War, hired by Lex Luthor and equipped to kill Superman in his deranged state.
Frank Dux has entered the "kumite", an illegal underground martial-arts competition where serious injury and even death are not unknown. In town for the fight are a number of fighters (all with different styles), as well as a journalist determined to get her story.
