Robert Richardson (Blair Underwood) moves out of Alabama, believing that as a black man, he'll find more equality in Los Angeles. He quickly lands a job as a messenger for the Los Angeles Times. But then two white police officers make a small traffic arrest that sets off a string of race riots in L.A.'s Watts district.
