Plot. The young emperor Nero proves himself spoiled, childish and unable to cope with the government of Rome. His domineering mother Agrippina and the wise philosopher Seneca try to make change the personality of the emperor, but nothing can make Nero into a wise and honorable ruler.

Synopsis. Much to the despair of his mother, Agrippina, Roman Emperor Nero prefers orgies, ballet, and singing at his estate in Baia to the military life imposed on him. He tries many times to murder his domineering mother, but every attempt fails.

Poppaea Sabina was the mistress and second wife of the Roman emperor Nero. Nero's bad acts are often attributed to her influence. Her birth year is unknown, but we know she died in 65 C.E. Family and Marriages. Poppaea Sabina was born the daughter of a woman with the same name who committed suicide. Her father was Titus Ollius.
