As the 1940s approach, British reporter David Charleston (Michael Redgrave) tries to alert the public to the political unrest that he believes is leading to another war with Germany -- but no one listens to him. So David gives up, retiring to a small town in the American Midwest, where he works as a lighthouse watchman. There he is visited by the ghosts of 19th-century ship captain Joshua Stuart (Finlay Currie) and his passengers, who try to persuade David to make a difference while he is alive. Wikipedia
