The Cellular Jail, also known as ' Kālā Pānī' ( Hindi: ۘकाला पानी, transl. 'Black Water' ), was a British colonial prison in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The prison was used by the colonial government of India for the purpose of exiling criminals and political prisoners.
Kala Pani (lit. ' Black Water '; transl. Solitary confinement) is a 1958 Indian Hindi-language thriller film, produced by Dev Anand for Navketan Films and directed by Raj Khosla. It is a remake of the 1955 Bengali film Sabar Uparey starring Uttam Kumar and Chabi Biswas which itself was based on A.J. Cronin's 1953 novel Beyond This Place.
