When I say the film is about Schireson, it’s important to add that the man was still alive in 1932, so while the filmmakers changed names and geography, the central details of the film match closely to what really happened.
Correspondence in the MPAA/PCA files at the AMPAS Library dated August-September 1932, reveals that Jason S. Joy, director of Studio Relations at the AMPP, advised Sam Bischoff of Tiffany Studios that the AMPP was concerned over the representation of plastic surgeons in the film, due to the fact that the only plastic surgeon in the film is considered a "quack."

Overview. The philandering Dr. Silas Brenton is fired from his position at a large hospital and given 24 hours to vacate the state. He sets himself up in Chicago as a "prestigious" plastic surgeon to the stars.
An off the cuff remark made about the ugliness of some people's faces leads Brenton into the murky world of plastic surgery. Even though it is a field that he is unfamiliar with his huge ego leads him to take chances and risks.
