The Suspended Vocation. The Suspended Vocation ( French: La vocation suspendue) is a 1978 French drama film directed by Chilean filmmaker Raúl Ruiz. It is a free adaptation of the perverse theological 1950 novel of the same name by Pierre Klossowski. [1]
Overview. The film centers on a Dominican monk named Jérôme (played by one actor in colour and another actor in black-and-white) and his interactions with various higher-ups within the French Catholic Church. Ruiz's intention was to reflect the ideological arguments that plagued Latin American left-wing political parties. Raúl Ruiz.
La Vocation Suspendue plot. An intentionally confusing combination of two earlier fictional attempts (a black and white version in 1942 and a color version in 1962) to film a story about the struggle between different doctrines within the Catholic Church. The final message is just as confusing as the structure.
