The Winning Team is a 1952 American biographical film starring Ronald Reagan and Doris Day, and directed by Lewis Seiler. It is a fictionalized biography of the life of major league pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander.
With Doris Day, Ronald Reagan, Frank Lovejoy, Eve Miller. Nebraska farmboy Grover Cleveland Alexander achieves baseball stardom before war injuries and alcoholism derail his career, but through his wife's faithful efforts he gets a chance for a comeback and redemption.
At a pre-season game at the Baker Bowl in Philadelphia, Aimee befriends Margaret, the wife of catcher Bill Killefer, and begins to learn the details of the game, while Alex strikes out his opponents. During the next few years, Alex's pitching makes him a baseball hero.
His pitching skills win him a position on an Illinois team, but an injury almost ruins his chance.
