The late eighties/early nineties realistic depictions of Japan are amazing. If you liked the style of Only Yesterday, trade the countryside for Tokyo and you have a sense of what this film is.

Although it's not as popular or well known as other Ghibli productions, and although it's not fantasy or anything, this is still very much worth watching. The animation is nice. Very nice.

  7. Jun 23, 2021 · Umi ga Kikoeru a review by heychrisfox. 3 years ago. I love the vibe and the animation of this film. Its exceptional of acting as a time capsule really capturing that 80s vibe from Japan. And the animation in particular is fantastic. That might sound silly to praise a Studio Ghibli film for its animation.
