Mar 27, 2005 · “The Band Wagon” (1953) came only a year after the same writers, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, wrote “ Singin' in the Rain.” Both are great backstage musicals, one about Hollywood, the other about Broadway, one starring Gene Kelly, the other Fred Astaire.
The Band Wagon was British actor Jack Buchanan's first American-made film since the 1930 Paramount film Monte Carlo (see AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30). A modern source adds dancer Paul Bradley to the cast.
