Analysis. Sanger Rainsford and his friend Whitney are sailing on a yacht heading to the Amazon to hunt jaguars. It’s a particularly dark night, and Whitney explains to Rainsford the superstition surrounding an ominous place they are passing called Ship-Trap Island.
