London cab driver Tom Manning (Richard Attenborough) becomes the prime suspect when a young girl in his neighborhood is found murdered. Following his arrest, Tom's wife, Jill (Cathy O'Donnell), certain of his innocence, convinces barrister Peter Tanner (Derek Farr) to defend Tom -- even though the prosecuting attorney is Peter's father (Ian Hunter).
