After escaping from a San Francisco mental hospital, Lulu McAfee (Melanie Griffith) heads to Los Angeles to reunite with her long-lost love, Ben Clifton (Patrick Swayze). When she sees him, she reveals what she claims is the truth about the past: She gave birth to a son after their breakup, but put the baby up for adoption at the onset of her schizophrenia.
