J. J. Johnson (January 22, 1924 – February 4, 2001), born James Louis Johnson and also known as Jay Jay Johnson, was an American jazz trombonist, composer and arranger. Johnson was one of the earliest trombonists to embrace bebop.
J.J. Johnson (born Jan. 22, 1924, Indianapolis, Ind., U.S.—died Feb. 4, 2001, Indianapolis) was an American jazz composer and one of the genre’s most influential trombonists. Johnson received early training as a pianist, and at age 14 he began to study the trombone.
