Roy J. Bittan (born July 2, 1949) [citation needed] is an American musician best known as a long-time member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. Nicknamed "The Professor", Bittan joined the E Street Band in 1974. He plays the piano, organ, accordion and synthesizers.

May 17, 2016 · New Yorker Roy Bittan has built an illustrious career as pianist/keyboard player for the likes of David Bowie, Jackson Browne, Chicago, Peter Gabriel, Ian Hunter, Meat Loaf, Stevie Nicks and Bob Seger. But his most enduring collaborator is Bruce Springsteen, with whom he’s played as a central member of his E Street Band since 1974.
- ‘Jungleland’ From: 'Born to Run' (1975) The late Clarence Clemons’ legendary sax solo may be the song’s emotional centerpiece, but Bittan’s part is every bit as crucial.
- 'Point Blank' From: 'The River' (1980) Springsteen has long been influenced by movies (note how many of his songs have been named after films), and many of his best cuts have a cinematic narrative at their core.
- ‘Thunder Road’ From: 'Born to Run' (1975) Springsteen wrote most of the Born to Run album on the piano, which made Bittan’s introduction to the band a baptism of fire.
- ‘Racing In the Street’ From: ‘Live / 1975-85’ (1986) Bittan’s piano leads the way on the side-one closer of 1978’s Darkness on the Edge of Town, a tale of a man looking to escape his joyless life through drag racing.
Bittan is the only member of the E Street Band to have co-written Bruce Springsteen songs, with “Roll of the Dice” and “Real World” from Human Touch to his credit, as well as “Trouble in Paradise,” which was released on the Tracks box set.
