He first picked up the guitar at age 12, and at the same time developed his singing abilities in church choirs. By high school, he was playing in rock bands.
An internationalist and musicologist residing in Virginia, Harris generously dips into the vividly rich palette of African American traditions – including traditional blues, West African, Afro-Caribbean, funk, jazz, New Orleans, and even rock-n-roll.
