Both palaces were reconstructed after suffering severe damage during World War II and resumed operations as the Austrian Gallery (Österreichische Galerie). In 2002 the Belvedere Museum secured the Schwanzer building, which had been the home of 20er Haus, a museum of the 20th century, since 1962.
