Francisco Pizarro, (born c. 1475, Trujillo, Extremadura, Castile—died June 26, 1541, Lima), Conquistador who seized the Inca empire for Spain. In 1510 he enrolled in an expedition of exploration in the New World, and three years later he joined Vasco Núñez de Balboa on the expedition that discovered the Pacific.
