Jones served as First Sea Lord from April 2016 to June 2019. Jones joined the Royal Navy as a Sub-Lieutenant on 1 May 1980. He saw active service in the South Atlantic in the amphibious assault ship HMS FEARLESS in 1982 during the Falklands War and was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 September 1982.
