Viktualienmarkt is a popular place for both locals and tourists, adjacent to Marienplatz; go to buy specialty foods, not only from Bavaria, but also Spanish ham or sausages, French cheese, wine etc. The square is lines on the side by countless bars and restaurants which are quickly packed after work, especially so on the weekend.
The Viktualienmarkt or Victuals is my favourite place to shop for fresh delicatessen, cheese, ham, bread, seasonal veggies and fruits and excellent wine.

The Viktualienmarkt is a Munich institution: A meeting place for people, for smells, colours and sounds. And for stories. Most people, however, only ever hear a snatch of these stories, for a couple of minutes, at best one or two hours and then their visit here is over.
