William Wadsworth Hodkinson (August 16, 1881 – June 2, 1971), known more commonly as W. W. Hodkinson, was born in Independence, Kansas. Known as The Man Who Invented Hollywood, he opened one of the first movie theaters in Ogden, Utah in 1907 and within just a few years changed the way movies were produced, distributed, and exhibited.
William Wadsworth Hodkinson opened his first film exchange in Ogden, Utah in 1907, at the age of 26. Within a few years he became Special Representative to the General Film Company representing the Motion Picture Patents Company in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles.

He got into the motion picture business early, opening a theater in Ogden, UT, in 1907. He was successful enough to buy out the only two other theaters in Ogden, then headed for the "big time" in Salt Lake City.

The W. W. Hodkinson Corporation was a film distribution corporation active during the silent era. It was established and run by the pioneer William Wadsworth Hodkinson who had previously been instrumental in the foundation of Paramount Pictures.
Before the Fatty Arbuckle scandal broke and spilled down into Hollywood in Sept of 1921, William Desmond Taylor, President of the Motion Picture Directors' Association, introduced William Wadsworth Hodkinson at a meeting of the organization earlier in the year in February.
