Located at approximately 3,300 feet (1,000 m) elevation, Dead Horse Ranch State Park covers 423 acres (1.71 km 2) of land with 10 miles (16 km) of hiking trails, 150 campground sites and several picnic areas, along with 23 group camping sites.
Camping Cabin Loop: Eight one-room log camping cabins are available at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. The cabin circle is tucked away from the other campgrounds for an ideal getaway for a weekend — or a week.
Sep 13, 2021 · Named for the dead horse lying in a field when the previous owners purchased it in 1950, Dead Horse Ranch State Park sits along the Verde River, a short drive from Old Town Cottonwood. Although it only covers 423 acres, it offers more recreational opportunities than most of Arizona's state parks.
A scenic park that belies its ominous name and is best known for bird watching, camping, canoeing, hiking and horseback riding. Dead Horse Ranch State Park is located adjacent to and across the Verde River from the community of Cottonwood. It is centrally located near several major population centers such as Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Prescott.
