Bushnell Park in Hartford, Connecticut is the oldest publicly funded park in the United States. It was conceived by the Reverend Horace Bushnell in the mid-1850s at a time when the need for open public spaces was just starting to be recognized.
Bushnell Park (1854) is located in the heart of downtown Hartford. It features an historic carousel and numerous monuments such as the Corning Fountain. Bushnell Park is the site of many major events each year, including the Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz and the Hartford Marathon.

The first public park in America that was financed with public funds, Bushnell Park draws visitors to its 1914 carousel, and also features memorials honoring Civil War and Spanish-American War soldiers and some 150 varieties of trees.
Bushnell Park is a classic example of an urban park in every sense of the word. It is located directly in the heart of downtown Hartford, CT, and is directly adjacent to several of the city's and state's most important buildings and institutions.
Today, Bushnell Park comprises 50 acres of rare and native trees, graceful paths, a pond, sculptures, a performance pavilion and a vintage 1914 carousel. Throughout the year the park hosts festivals and musical events.
