Round Island Passage Light is an automated, unmanned lighthouse located in the Round Island Channel in the Straits of Mackinac, Michigan. [3] [4] [5] The channel is a branch of Lake Huron. It served as an active, manned lighthouse and fog signal from 1895 to 1947. It was abandoned in 1947 and replaced by the Round Island Passage Light, an automated light tower located in the adjacent Round Island Channel. Abandoned, the lighthouse fell prey to plunderers and vandals.

The lighthouse was first lit on May 15th, 1896 and a fog signal was added later that year. The light was automated in 1924. In 1947 the light was deactivated and replaced by the automated Round Island Passage Light, which was placed in the water on the far side of the shipping lane.
At the opening of navigation in 1948, Round Island Passage Lighthouse, located just off Mackinac Island, was placed in operation, and Round Island Lighthouse became an unattended station. Round Island Lighthouse was decommissioned in 1955, and turned over to Hiawatha National Forest in 1958.
Built in 1947 to replace the Round Island Lighthouse which was showing signs of wear due to lake storms. This modern concrete structure marks the Northern passage between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, through the Straits of Mackinac. The white obelisk has a flashing light and radio beacon on top.
