Cremains of the Day is the fifteenth episode of Season 35.
When someone in Homer's life passes away, he and guys from Moe's go on a road trip to scatter the ashes... but will their friendship die as well?
As the episode starts, Moe has opened his bar at 6 AM so that Homer, Lenny, and Carl can watch an early morning football game. The three convince Moe to place a bet on a game later in the day, and when it seems he is about to win, his team loses at the very last second. Infuriated, Moe tries to kick everyone out, but when he tries to do the same to Larry, he and the others are horrified to discover that Larry has died.
At Mourning Glory Funeral Home, Homer gets bored at the funeral. Moe, Lenny, and Carl came for Larry's funeral. Bart and Lisa are bored and going to visit other funerals.
Back at Larry's funeral, Rev. Lovejoy arrives quickly and thinks that it's Homer. Alice Glick whispered quietly to Rev. Lovejoy what going to say and she then handling a book to him, he called his mother's name Iris Dalrymple. Homer, Lenny, and Carl are talking about Big Fish Larry. And then, they return to their seat. When Marge tells Moe what Barney does, he says to her that he blew it off and is a selfish jerk. Barney is in a village to help them to get clean water.
After the funeral, Iris found his book in her son’s room and opened a book where the five of them went to Serenity Falls. Homer can't travel to Serenity Falls again because it’s too stressful, but he'll go.
Moe along with Homer, Lenny and Carl with Larry's ashes are traveling to Serenity Falls. At Acceptable 8 in the night, a light was still on, and Carl told Lenny to turn it off to go to sleep. He told him to leave Larry alone in the dark and said a ghost was here. Lenny runs into the bathroom with Larry's ashes after an argument in the night.
The next morning, Homer goes to the bathroom, but he knocks the urn down and reveals sapphires with ashes. Moe goes to the bathroom too and sees sapphires from ashes after Homer knocks the urn down and identifies it. Moe must keep the secret from Lenny and Carl. Back on the road, still on the way to Serenity Falls, but Lenny and Carl are fighting and driving dangerously offroad. Moe angrily pushed the brake to stop. However, Lenny pushed the accelerated and the urn knocked off from the van. Moe put ashes and gems back into the urn. Homer tries to explain to two of them and starts an argument but is stopped by the sheriff. Four of them have been captured for jewel smuggling and placed into the front trunk.
Criticism
Many fans on social media were shocked that it officially killed off the supporting character after almost 35 years since he debuted in Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire. Long has issued an apology for emotional impact viewers caused by death of long-running character. He wrote, “I'm sorry if some fans are upset, but we really wanted to use Larry's death as a way to show that even the most peripheral people in our lives have dignity and worth, and that we really shouldn't take anyone for granted,”
