The right to a trial by jury is the privilege of every person in the United States, whether citizen or alien. This right is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. It is also assured to all Tennesseans by our state constitution.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST DAY OF JURY DUTY. You need to report by 8:30am to the Jury Assembly Room (Suite 1120 on the ground floor) at the Justice A.A. Birch Building. Please bring the upper section of your summons with you if possible. We will provide you with a juror badge and a parking pass.
Why is jury duty important? The United States Constitution guarantees all people the right to trial by jury. Justice ultimately depends in large measure on the jurors who serve in our courts.
Trial by Jury is a keystone of our system of justice. There is no more valuable service that a citizen can perform in support of our democratic government than the good faith performance of jury duty.
