Any time the facts of a civil or criminal case are in dispute, the parties have a right to have their case heard by a jury of fair and impartial citizens who will make decisions without bias or prejudice. Jury service is a high duty of citizenship.

We could tell you all the reasons given in government or civics classes, but most of you have already heard them. We could tell you how serving on a jury is an interesting and rewarding experience, but you'll find that out for yourself.

Texas has a list of specific excuses that can be used to be exempt from reporting for jury duty, including excuses for breastfeeding, age, police, medical worker and firefighter. You can also be excused if you don't meet the basic eligibility requirements for jury duty in TX.

Summons Help. After being summoned for jury service: To check the status of your reporting time and date, you will need your 6 digit juror ID number and your 5 digit electronic signature number which are located on the front of your summons.
