Three contestants compete in each episode, all attempting to win bragging rights and a feeling of superiority by correctly correcting incorrect statements. There are only two rules; all of the corrections must be preceded by the phrase “Um, Actually...” and you can interrupt the statement at any time. If you don’t precede the correction with “Um, A...
Although the gameplay never has actual questions, each round of statements is often called a “question”. Each and every question is and always have been worth 1 single point.
Um, Actually: The Web Series
"Um, Actually: The Web Series" is the original incarnation of the show as it premiered on the Collegehumor site and Youtube Channel in 2015. The show had 9 episodes, all hosted by Mike Trapp, and featured Collegehumor regulars. Brennan Lee Mulligan, who later becomes a writer and cast member for Collegehumor and remains as part of Dropout, got his start at the company as a writer for this show, and appears as a contestant on several episodes.
Dropout series
"Um, Actually..." on Dropout, premiering in 2018, expands on the original show with a larger budget, larger set and longer runtime. The Shiny Questions, which were introduced on the web series, become a lot more frequent and elaborate, including props. The writers are kept on board during the show to fact checkthe host and players live. Mike Trapp continues to be the host until he leaves after Season 8. Season 9, the current season, is hosted by Ify Nwadiwe.
