When the Boat Comes In is a British television period drama produced by the BBC between 1976 and 1981. Across the whole series, events are set in the time period from 1919 to 1937. In 1919, Jack Ford returns to Gallowshields on Tyneside after service in the Great War. He becomes friendly with the Seaton family - parents Bella and Bill, and their children: Jessie, a schoolteacher to whom Jack is attracted; Billy, a medical student and Socialist; and Tom, who is getting married to his sweetheart Mary.
Tue, Mar 10, 1981. Smuggler Doughty introduces Jack to his supplier, German Captain Bauer, who offers Jack work guarding an air-strip in South America against local tribes. However, on learning that Bauer wants the locals killed for the oil on their land, Jack refuses.
