is a satirical American animated television series produced by Underdog Productions and Fuzzy Door Productions for 20th Century Fox. It was created, in part, by Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy who wanted to recreate the dynamic of All in the Family of a conservative father and a liberal daughter.

The pilot episode aired in the United States on Fox on February 6 2005, thirty minutes after the end of Super Bowl XXXIX; the regular series began May 1 2005, after the season premiere of Family Guy. Starting with "Blonde Ambition", TBS took over broadcasting of American Dad! for a 15 episode season, which was renewed later for two more 22 episode seasons on the network. 1. FOX originally had two conflicting season counts under their watch, with one based on the traditional broadcast season and followed by the media and FOX PR, and a second that extended the first season over a year and a half which was promoted by the 'official' FOX American Dad! page. FOX further complicated issues by advertising the final three episodes as a season unto themselves.

    2. For 2014, TBS originally followed the FOX PR model with the short first season and final three episodes as season 11. Wikipedia continues to use this version after discussion, noting that "We can't rewrite history and reorganise every time TBS changes its mind..."

    3. On October 20th, 2015, TBS has changed it's counting method to one that almost followed the writing seasons, but made a complete hash of broadcast order. This system is not known to be in use currently.

    4. By October of 2016, TBS has sorted out the broadcast order and mostly counted by writing seasons, with two notable exceptions in writing season 7 episodes "Ricky Spanish" and "Toy Whorey" being included into the writing season 6 count.

    5. On July 1, 2017, TBS changed the counts to being calendar-based for episodes "Pilot (American Dad!)" through "Great Space Roaster". "100 A.D." starts season 6 under this method.

    6. On July 19, 2017, 20th Century Fox Television Distribution struck a deal with Hulu giving them streaming rights to American Dad!. With TBS in a constant state of flux over their season counts, as well as the ambiguous treatment of some episodes, this wiki decided in 2018 to follow the seasons established jointly by FOX and Hulu.
