The Trapp Family (also known as the von Trapp Family) was a singing group formed from the family of former Austrian naval commander Georg von Trapp. The family achieved fame in their original singing career in their native Austria during the interwar period.

- The real Maria described herself as “horrid” Maria von Trapp. Maria Augusta Kutschera was born in January 1905 and, after being orphaned at a young age, was reportedly sent to live with an abusive uncle.
- The number and names of the von Trapp children were changed in the movie. In 1926, Maria was sent from the convent to tutor only one of Captain von Trapp’s seven children from his first marriage.

Trapp Family Story (トラップ一家物語, Torappu Ikka Monogatari) is a 1991 Japanese animated series by Nippon Animation, based on the story of the real-life Austrian singing family the Trapp Family. It is a part of the World Masterpiece Theatre franchise, which adapted classic works of literature into animated TV shows. 40 episodes aired on Fuji TV. [1]

- The names and ages of the real von Trapp children were changed for the film. In actuality, the eldest von Trapp child was not 16-going-on-17-year-old Liesl, but Rupert, who was born in 1911 and a practicing physician by the time the family fled Austria in 1938.
- Maria worked as a tutor to one von Trapp child, not a governess to them all. In 1926, Georg von Trapp’s second-oldest daughter, Maria, contracted scarlet fever—the same disease that took the life of his first wife four years earlier—and could no longer walk the four miles to school.
- The von Trapps married more than a decade before they fled Austria. Unlike in the film when they wed as the Nazis were taking control of Austria in 1938, 47-year-old Georg von Trapp and 22-year-old Maria wed more than a decade earlier on November 26, 1927.
