Roots: The Next Generations is an American television miniseries based on the last seven chapters of Alex Haley's 1976 novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family. First aired on ABC in February 1979, it is a sequel to the 1977 Roots miniseries, tracing the lives of Kunta Kinte's descendants in Henning, Tennessee, from 1882 to 1967.
Roots: The Next Generations. Post Civil War and slavery, Alex Haley's family history continues with this new chapter for the progeny of Kunta Kinte and their quest for freedom.

Alex Haley (DAMON EVANS) joins the Coast Guard after leaving college. He meets and marries Nan Branch (DEBBIE ALLEN) before being sent to the South Pacific during WW II. In 1865 the United States' Civil War and slavery end, but Alex Haley's family history continues.
