"Trouble in Paradise" is the third episode of the sixth season of The Rookie. This is the one-hundred first episode of the series overall.
Nolan and Bailey’s honeymoon is more of a nightmare than dream when it turns into an active crime scene. Meanwhile, Tim and Celina partner up and must uncover the identity of a John Doe.
John and Bailey arrive on an unnamed island for their honeymoon; they soon find that their "luxury villa" is not so much "luxury" and more cheap cabana. They decide to make the most of it, and soon John is showing off all the cameras he got to record their honeymoon memories.
Meanwhile, Celina tries to convince Aaron that he doesn't have to buy his way back into her friendship, and the awkwardness resulting from Aaron kissing her at the wedding remains. He spends some time talking to the department psychiatrist about it, and Celina gets some advice from Luna Grey, who has started her job as a patient advocate at St. Vincent's hospital.
Studying for the upcoming detectives' exam is causing Lucy to stress out; she even enlists Smitty to help her with the oral part of the exam, hoping he can give her some confidence about testing in front of Lt. Primm, one of the people whom she manipulated in order to get Tim Bradford his position in the Metro division.
Back on the island, John and Bailey encounter a mysteriously bandaged and reclusive visitor, and one of John's cameras captures an image of someone lurking outside their cabana, watching them while they sleep. The newlyweds decide not to let it get in the way of their vacation, but just as they're enjoying a walk on the beach, a dead body comes in on the tide. John calls Nyla Harper for advice, but the phone service is spotty and he's unable to give her details. Harper and Lopez decide to go to the island to check out John's situation, much to the amusement of Sgt. Grey.
Tim, Celina, and Lucy are called to a shoplifting incident, where they find a man who's been injured who can't remember who he is. In following up on the man's ramblings and other evidence, Celina theorizes that he may have been involved in a crime at a diamond exchange in Koreatown. When Tim and Celina go to search the offices of the exchange, they find a hole in the ceiling and a man trapped behind a wall; it appears that he and his partner were trying to rob the exchange and were injured and trapped.
John and Bailey decide to conduct a search of the housekeeper's corpse and find a laceration behind her ear. They're unable to tell whether it was inflicted by nature or by an attacker, but Bailey finds a bandage claw in the woman's pocket and thinks it might belong to their mysterious neighbor, Dean. They sneak into Dean's cabana, search the rooms, and leave a couple of cameras in place for surveillance. Finding some weaponry in his luggage, John removes the ammunition from a gun and plugs the barrel, then replaces the gun so Dean won't miss it. Their next move is to try to use kayaks to reach a nearby island, but apparently someone has hacked holes in the kayaks, rendering them unusable.
