Laurence van Cott Niven (/ ˈ n ɪ v ən /; born April 30, 1938) is an American science fiction writer. His 1970 novel Ringworld won the Hugo , Locus , Ditmar , and Nebula awards. With Jerry Pournelle he wrote The Mote in God's Eye (1974) and Lucifer's Hammer (1977).
Larry Niven is the author of Ringworld, the co-author of The Mote in God's Eye and Lucifer's Hammer, the editor of the Man-Kzin War series, and has written or co-authored over 50 books. He is a five-time winner of the Hugo Award, along with a Nebula and numerous others.

Oct 1, 1970 · Larry Niven released Ringworld in 1970 and it won the sci-if Triple Crown (Nebula 1970, Hugo 1971, Locus 1971). Looking back, imho the book has flaws, but it’s still brilliant world building as well as compelling and influential.
