Before Slovenia's independence in 1991, Slovenian players represented Yugoslavia. Slovenia joined the International Basketball Federation in 1992 and played its first official game on 22 June 1992 against Bulgaria in the qualification rounds for the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Ljubljana, 6 November - The executive committee of the Slovenian Basketball Association (KSZ) appointed Aleksander Sekulić the new head coach of the men's national basketball team. Taking over from Radovan Trifunović, he will coach the team for the first time as it continues the qualifiers for the 2022 EuroBasket in November.
