City Stadium was originally known as Penang Island National Stadium (Malay: Stadium Nasional Pulau Pinang) and was officially building of construction on 1 October 1945. National Stadium was completed on 1 June 1948. National Stadium was expanded on 1 May 1950 by the British government. National Stadium was renovated on 1 July 1953.
