Laurinburg is located on US Highway 74, a major east-west four-lane highway, US Highway 401, a major north-south four-lane highway, and minutes away from Interstate 95 which runs from Maine to Florida. Downtown Laurinburg is just 43 miles from Fayetteville and Fort Bragg, in the heart of North Carolina.

The original industry in the area was agriculture and even today, the town stays true to its roots as a small southern town between the mountains and the ocean.
The Mayor of the City of Laurinburg is an elected position and serves as the official head of the City and presides over Council meetings. James (Jim) T. Willis was re-elected Mayor of the City of Laurinburg in November 2023 and his four-year term expires in November 2027.
