- Cincinnati. Rivaling it in terms of quality of life is the ‘Queen City’ of Cincinnati in the southwest corner of the state. Although often perceived to be a sleepy Midwestern metropolis, this important economic and cultural hub has a myriad of attractions, amenities, and entertainment options for locals and visitors to benefit from.
- Columbus. Awash with art and music, theaters, and nightlife, the cosmopolitan Columbus is both Ohio’s largest city and state capital. While it boasts an almost endless array of museums, historic sites, and sporting spectacles, the city’s diverse economy and high quality of life have enticed young professionals and families alike for decades now.
- Toledo. Another fantastic city to live in that doesn’t often feature on visitors’ itineraries is the terrific Toledo at the western end of Lake Erie. Now the fourth-largest city in the state, it has a happening arts and culture scene to check out with magnificent mansions and architecturally interesting houses lining the streets of its historic neighborhoods.

- Cuyahoga Valley National Park. My first pick is Ohio’s only national park, wrapped in suburbs between Cleveland and Akron, so it’s easy to dip in and out.
- Hocking Hills State Park. In the same vein, I could ramble on for days about all the things you can see and do in the Hocking Hills Region in Southeastern Ohio.
- Put-In-Bay. Island getaways don’t get much more convenient than the Bass Islands, a few short miles from the south shore of Lake Erie. The hub for tourism here is South Bass Island, which also goes by the name of the village on the north side, Put-In-Bay.
- Yellow Springs. A unique village with a tradition for progressive politics and a large LGBT population, Yellow Springs is edged by some of the most beautiful scenery in southwestern Ohio.
