Originally in Marvel Comics, Hiro Takachiho was a 13-year-old Japanese boy who built Baymax and at first was hesitant to join Big Hero 6, as his mother wanted him to live a normal life. In the movie, he is 14 and his surname is changed to Hamada, likely because Takachiho isn't a real Japanese surname.
