Fish come to gaff and don’t escape. All that said, the photo shows his knot after the trip. The three or four turn Uni knot has unraveled.

  6. Oct 21, 2010 · Bob Sands uses a uni knot as the anchor on the end of the mono, while I have found that a double overhand (two turn surgeon's) is easier, tighter, and every bit as secure as the uni. The spectra part of the tying is easy once you get the hang of it.

I just discovered this knot recently (the version I tie is much closer to the Bob Sands variation, I think), and it seems awesome. I've tied and tested a bunch of them using 65# spectra and 50# mono, and the knot never fails.
