Daniel Thomas O'Bannon (September 30, 1946 – December 17, 2009) was an American film screenwriter, director and visual effects supervisor, usually in the science fiction and horror genres. O'Bannon wrote the screenplay for Alien, adapted from a story he wrote with Ronald Shusett.

Dan O'Bannon. Writer: Alien. Dan O'Bannon was inspired at an early age by EC Comics like Tales from the Crypt and old horror films that he saw in St. Louis. He even wrote a few stories for Heavy Metal magazine (which also showed up in the film).
His screenplays have ranged from the eerie horror outing Dead and Buried (1981) to the action hit Blue Thunder (1983), and the compelling Lifeforce (1985), as well as Invaders from Mars (1986), both directed by Tobe Hooper, and the 1990 megahit Total Recall.
