Dr. James Kildare is a fictional American medical doctor, originally created in the 1930s by the author Frederick Schiller Faust under the pen name Max Brand.
In 1963 Richard won a Golden Globe for Best Male TV Star for Dr. Kildare. After Kildare however, despite being offered many roles in TV series Richard decided to have a go with acting in plays at the American Stock Repertory.
